How we score

The goal

When you research a place or something to do, you are ultimately trying to answer the question in your mind: “is this worth it?” Should you spend money, time, and energy to pursue this thing? Like any decision you make, it is a trade-off and an investment, whether you realize it or not.

The purpose of Rated Wanders is to help you formulate an idea so you can answer “is this worth it” based on facts and opinions. We want to serve as a starting point in your travel research.

How subcategory ratings work

Each category is made up of three subcategories, all weighted equally. We score each of those, then take the average to get the final rating for that category.

For example, if the three subcategory scores are 5, 5, and 5, the average is 5, so the category score would be 5.

Once we have a score for each of the four categories (Delight, Cost, Safety, and Logistics) we average those together to get the overall rating.
